Athena Institute of Health Sciences organized Annual Retreat for all Catholic students & staff on 28.08.24 & 29.08.24 at Fathima Retreat House. Around 435 students along with staff attended the retreat. On 28.08.2024 Retreat began at 8.15-00 am with Praise & Worship. Programme compered by Ms. Alina Binu, IV year B.Sc.(N) Student, welcomed the gathering and Resource persons. Fr. Anil Director Fatima retreat house, was also welcomed for the same and Fr. Anil wished all the students and staff a fruitful Retreat. On 28 th Malayalam session was conducted by Br Shonet and English by Fr. Jaison Pinto, Fr. Joseph Rodrigues and Fr Anisio Mota (SDB). The Ist day program concluded with confession and adoration of blessed sacrament. There were Ten priests who helped the students to attend the confession.
On 29/08/2024 day started at 8.15-00 am with praise and worship and action songs led by Br. Melvin and Team. Malayalam Sessions conducted by Fr. Lijo and English by Fr. Jaison and Team. Counseling was arranged Full Day for students and Three counselors were present. Afternoon session started with praise and worship, adoration followed by Holy Mass. Retreat concluded at 4.15-00pm with vote of thanks by Ms. Emilda II year B.Sc (N) students.
The SNA unit organized the Annual Cultural Fest – Capricious 2K24 for all the nursing batches from 5 th August, 2024 to 7 th august, 2024 at the College Auditorium. The cultural fest began with the inaugural ceremony, that took place by unveiling the theme which was done by the dignitaries of the programme; Principal Sr. Deepa Peter, Vice Principal Mrs. Sunitha lobo, Principal AIAHS Dr. Nandini M were escorted by SNA advisors Mrs. Priyanka Dsouza and Mrs. Viola Dsouza, SNA Vice President Ms. Angela Tomy -IV B. Sc(N) and Ms. Nirmitha Rajesh – III GNM. After the inauguration, the SNA induction took place and all the SNA office bearers took their unit pledge. The SNA advisors read the rules and regulations of the college to the students and revised the d-card rules as well. Sr. Deepa Peter addressed the gathering and motivated the students to participate in the cultural fest enthusiastically. After the formal programme, the cultural events began as per the schedule. All batches took part with a positive attitude and were very exuberant and energetic throughout the cultural fest. All students displayed their versatile and exceptional talents. All the judges were impressed with the performances of the students and they also gave some mesmerizing performances too. The cultural fest concluded with the prize distribution on 7 th august, 2024.the list of winners are as follows:

Athena Institute of Health Sciences has organized the one day National Webinar on “Unboxing Artificial Intelligence and Health Care” on 19th of July 2024 at Athena College of Nursing from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The President of the program Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman AIHS, Prof. Sr. Deepa Peter Principal AIHS, Prof Sunitha Lobo Vice Principal ACON, Dr. Nandini M Principal of Allied Health Science, Dr. Binsha Pappachan KSNC Observer, Ms. Nishel Barboza Organizing Secretory presided over the program. The webinar started with the prayer song by 4 th year B. Sc nursing students followed by the Dignitaries on the dais lighted the Indian Lamp and officially inaugurated the program.
The Webinar was conducted through Google Meet. Sr. Deepa Peter welcomed the gathering and Prof. Sunitha Lobo addressed the gathering with a key note. Mr. R S Shettian gave the Presidential address giving the importance of AI, motivating and assuring the participants that the sessions would be totally beneficial, gaining knowledge on AI and its use in health care and daily life.The inaugural program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Hemalatha G HOD in Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing. Before commencing the sessions pretest link was sent to the delegates through WhatsApp and Email. There were more than 229 attendees registered for the event from different colleges in and around the country.
Mrs. Viola Felicita Dsouza, Asst. Lecturer introduced the first Speaker of the day, Rev. Fr. Sabu Thomas Assistant Professor Dept. of English, Sacred Heart College, Thevara Kochi. Fr. Sabu Thomas is an enthusiastic educator having an extensive knowledge on AI. He highlighted the importance of AI tools with hand on experience, which enriched us with a depth knowledge on AI in education, research and health care.
Mrs Thelma Dsouza, Asst Lecturer introduced the Speaker of the second session, Dr Arvind C V Professor, Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, NMAM Institute of technology, NITTE, Mangalore. He presented different AI tools which are used in hospitals for better patient outcomes.
Mrs. Priya Carnelio, Lecturer introduced the speaker of the third session Mrs. Lilly Maben Senior Robotic nurse, Team leader, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. She gave us an insight into the robotic surgeries with practical examples and the role of the robotic nurse.
At the end of the webinar a post test link and feed back link was sent to the delegates in the WhatsApp group and Email. The webinar was compered by Mrs. Prashwin 1 st year M.Sc Nursing student ACON. On the whole the webinar was a successful event and very informative to the delegates. Hoping that the delegates would use AI tools in future.

Objectives:
* To create awareness among the high school students about dengue, malaria and its prevention
and management.
* To create awareness among the students about rainwater harvesting and its advantages.
The 4 th year B.Sc. nursing (20) students organized the School Health Programme on 22-06-24 at Govt. High school, Malali. The programme began at 11:00 am with a prayer song followed by welcome speech by Ms. Amitha P Lal. A role play was conducted by the students on Dengue and malaria which was preceded with the explanation sessions by Ms. Princiya and Ms. Monika. Later the students were attentively engaged in the fashion show which was presented before them on the subtopic control measures of Dengue and Malaria.Thereafter, the programme continued with the Demonstrative and illustrative sessions of rainwater harvesting by Sr. Deena, Ms. Shruthi and Ms. Soniya with a model which created an enthusiasm in students for adopting those practices. The Programme came to an end with a cultural programme followed by a vote of thanks, delivered by Ms. Reshmi. The programme ended at 12:15 PM. Refreshments were served at the end of the programme. The School Health Programme was under the Supervision and guidance of Mrs. Sunitha Lobo (HOD of CHN dept.) and Asst. lecturers Mrs. Priya, Mrs. Lora and Mrs. Lavita.
The programme had achieved its objectives and developed awareness in the students as evidenced by answering questions at end of the session.
AThe Nursing Foundation Department in association with SNA, Athena Institute of Health Sciences celebrated International Nurses day on 15 th May 2024, 10.30 am at the college auditorium, in order to commemorate the birthday of the foundress Ms. Florence Nightingale.
The program began by invoking God’s blessing through a prayer song by I year GNM students. Dr. Sr. Alphonsa Ancheril – Former Vice Principal, Athena Institute of Health Sciences graced the programme as the chief guest and Dr.Ashith Shettian, Trustee, Athena Institute of Health Sciences presided over the function. Sr. Deepa Peter Principal, AIHS, Prof. Sunitha Lobo, Vice Principal AIHS, Dr. Nandini M Principal of AIAHS, Mrs. Genevive Serrao HOD of FON Department were the dignitaries for the occasion. Mrs. Thelma Pinto, Asst Lecturer welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the Nightingale lamp and garlanding the portrait of Ms. Florence Nightingale by the chief guest. Dr. Sr. Alphonsa Ancheril addressed the gathering on the theme “Our Nurses Our Future, the Economic Power of Care”. And she stressed on the present generation to keep upgrading their knowledge and skill in providing healthcare. Dr. Ashith Shettian congratulated the nurses for their services rendered to healthcare; which was followed by a short cultural programme. Sr. Deepa Peter gave a message saying Nurses should be compassionate, empathetic and also enhance their status in academics. Ms. Rajeshwari, Asst. Lecturer FON department expressed her gratitude to all gathered. The programme concluded with the college Anthem. The programme was compered by Ms. Riya Rodrigues and Ms. Neha Megan Rosario students of I year B.Sc. nursing.
After a short break, an exhibition of Anatomy Model was conducted by I year B.Sc Nursing students (I Sem) Students. Based on the International Nurses day theme poster competition was held by Student Nurses Association (SNA). Prizes were disturbed to the winners And the poster were displayed during the exhibition.
On the occasion of International Nurses Day, the SNA unit organized a Poster making competition on 13/05/2024 for all the batches on the theme "The Economic Power of Care ". The students from all batches participated with great interest and enthusiasm. The posters were later displayed for viewing.

An in-service education session was conducted by the students of 2 nd year PB.B.Sc. nursing at Ganjimatt PHC on 08-05-2024. The topic of the session was self-care and Stress management. Students enacted a play on daily stress causing issues of ASHA workers and explained the methods to manage stress and have a good self-care routine using an attractive Power Point presentation. The activities like laughing therapy, range of motion exercises and fun games were conducted as a part of relaxation techniques. 25 ASHA workers were the beneficiaries of the program. Mrs. Pavithra (PCO of the facility), Mrs. Jayalakshmi (ASHA coordinator) and Mrs. Sunitha Lobo (vice principal, AIHS) were present on the occasion. Program was compered by Ms. Melita. Ms. Prajna welcomed the gathering and Ms. Rishael proposed the vote of thanks. The program came to an end with refreshments.
NSS unit in association with OBG Nursing department marked International Women’s Day celebration on 11 th March 2024. Guest speaker Dr Sandra Sunitha Lobo from Roshni Nilaya Mangalore addressed the gathering how to ‘Balance work life and personal life’. Forty five faculty member attended the programme. Cultural programme was presented by staffs and in the end refreshment was served to the gathering.
A school health program was conducted by the students of 3 rd year GNM at Govt. primary school, Tharikeri on 23-02-2024. The topic of the program was Dengue, Malaria and Food poisoning. Students enacted a play on effect of poor hygiene and effect of mosquito breeding and explained about causes of mosquito borne diseases and its control. Students even explained about the food poisoning and its prevention through an attractive skit. A short cultural dance was conducted to entertain the school students. 32 school children and 6 teachers were the beneficiaries of the program. Mr. Yashwanth kumar (ex-Grama panchayath president), Mrs. Latha (SDM president), Mrs. Ramadevi (Headmistress), Mrs. Sheelavathi (CRP), Mrs. Shashikala (Gram Panchayath Member) were present on the occasion. Program was compered by Ms. Rathna, Ms. Nirmitha welcomed the gathering and Ms. Adlin proposed the vote of thanks. The program came to an end with refreshments and the distribution of tooth brushes to the school children.
An Anganvadi program was conducted by the students of 3 rd year GNM at Anganavadi center, Nooyi on 17-02-2024. The topic of the program was Developmental milestones and problems of pre-school children. Students enacted a play on the issues of pre-schoolers and explained the methods to manage the problems using charts and other AV aids. A short cultural program was conducted to entertain the kids and parents. 16 pre-school children and 16 mothers were the beneficiaries of the program. Mrs. Latha (Panchayath member, Nooyi), Mrs. Pavithra (Anganavadi teacher), Mrs. Jayalakshmi (ASHA coordinator) and Mrs. Sunitha Lobo, (HOD CHN dept) were present on the occasion. Program was compered by Ms. Nirmitha and Ms. Deeksha. Ms. Kavya welcomed the gathering and Ms. Malina proposed the vote of thanks. The program came to an end with refreshments.
The SNA team of the institution organized the Annual Sports Meet 2024 was held on 27 th & 29 th February 2024.
The events conducted on 27 th February 2024 at the YMCA grounds were indoor games, Throw ball for girls, Volleyball for boys & Badminton. The first day began with a brief formal programme presided by Dr. Nandini M, Principal Athena Institute of Allied Health sciences.
The Athletic meet on 29 th February 2024 at Mangala Stadium was presided our by Dr. Ashith Shettian, Trustee, Athena Institute of Health sciences. It began with a grand march past by all the batches.
Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal, Athena Institute of Health sciences, Dr. Nandini Principal Athena Institute of Allied Health sciences, Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal Athena Institute of Allied Health sciences were the dignitaries for the programme. Mrs. Viola DSouza, SNA Advisor welcomed the gathering. Kreedajyothi was displayed by the athletics of the institution. Dr. Ashith Shettian declared the sports meet 2024 open by releasing balloons, followed by oath taking ceremony by Mrs. Priyanka DSouza.
The chief guest addressed the gathering followed by a messege by the Principal, Sr. Deepa Peter. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Kavana Poojary, Lecturer Athena Institute of Allied Health sciences.
The entire sports meet was closely supervised under the guidance of Physical education directors Mr. Dayananda Mada and Mr. Praveen Kumar. All students actively participated in all the events with great enthusiasm. The sports meet was concluded with a short valedictory programme.
FON department in association with school of social work Roshini nilaya organized a workshop on 23.01.2024 venue Athena Auditorium.
I year B.Sc. (N) (semester system) 80 students and I year GNM 60students participated in the programme. Students were divided into 7 groups and in each group 20 students were present, 3 counselors in each group and sessions were conducted. The programme started at 9.00 am and Students took active part in the session. Some of the activities like puzzles, funny games, arranging ascending orders, role play etc. were conducted, which helped the students to relive their stress in the day today life. Students also expressed their feelings. Session adjourned at 1.30 pm with vote of thanks.
School of Social Work Roshini Nilaya Staff Welfare Committee of Athena Institute of Health Sciences at 1pm to 5pm in Athena auditorium on 03.04.2024. In association with the topic – Work Life Balance & Class room management.
Sr. Deepa Peter Principal AIHS and Dr. Nandini M Principal of AIAHS along with 23 staff members participated in the programme.
The group was divided into two and the group I had 3 counselor’s, and group II had 4 counselors’ an organizing and conducting the programs. Some of the activities were conducted like passing the ball, funny games, role play, concentration & co-ordination game like building the pyramid, sandwich method etc. Task was given to the participants to conduct small role play based on management of behavioral problems etc.
Small topic were given to identify the problems and their applications in day to day life in relieving stress and balancing work life, in family set up, work place and even in handling the students.
Staff enjoyed the sessions and expressed their feelings. and gratitude to the management and organizers. Sessions adjourned at 5pm with refreshment and distribution of certificates to counselors.
An awareness program on growth and development and management of physical and psychosocial problems of under 5 children was conducted on 17th February 2024 at Anganvadi Kendra, adoor at 10am by the third year GNM students.
The program started with the prayer song followed by lighting the lamp by the Asha, supervisor, Anganavadi Teacher And Panchayat member. The students depicted the growth and development of under 5 child through a small skit and the explanation of the same was given in detail by the students.
Welcome address was given by Ms. Kavya and vote of thanks by Ms. Melina. The whole program was compared by Ms. Nirmitha. There were 19 mothers and 12 children present for the program. The audience appreciated the knowledge given by the students.
The SNA unit organized a guest talk on “ Youth for Democracy “ by Rev. Fr. Maxim Dias on 12 th December 2023 for all the B. Sc Nursing batches from 9am to 12pm in the respective classes. The guest speaker mainly discussed the role of youth in the political process and election. He also encouraged the students to recognize their duty towards the nation and to understand their role in effecting positive change in the society and in Governance.
On the occasion of Christmas , the SNA unit conducted Christmas card making competition on 11/12/2023 in the computer lab. All batches participated with a lot of enthusiasm and displayed their creative art in the best way.

The Principal, Vice principal, Nursing superintendent and the deputy nursing superintendent along with the hospital staff, teaching and non-teaching faculty presided for the programme. The programme commenced at 10: 30 am by a prayer song, a street play on awareness of diabetes and its management and prevention with the help of Placards and slogans. The programme also showcased the significance of physical activity and exercises through a flash mob. The Vice principal addressed the significance of the day with a short speech. Around 30 viewers in and around the hospital premises witnessed the programme. The programme came to an end at 11 am by a vote of thanks.
As a part of celebrating International Day against Drug Abuse. Our Psychiatry Department and 3 rd year B.Sc. Nursing students conducted a Drug Awareness Programme at Athena College of Nursing on 09.11.2023. The programme started at 10.00 am. We began with a lyrical and mellifluent prayer which was followed by a welcome speech by Reshmi Rajesh. Later, we invited our Chief Guest Mr. Guru Prasad – Founder of Born Again Recovery Centre. He is not only a leading motivator, but also an achiever in saving souls from prison of drug addiction. He presented us every details and detrimental effects of drugs and how he regained his life from addiction, during his class which longed for one hour. After his inspiring speech, Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal gifted him a token of gratitude on behalf of our Athena Institute of Health Sciences.
Next there was a sensational skit performed by students of 3 rd year B.Sc. Nursing, which envisioned the deleterious effects of drug. Then we came to an end of the programme with vote of thanks which was delightfully delivered by Lenisha Sony. Accompanying this programme ended with College Anthem which was announced by Aleena Binu and Aleen Deep who was the moderators of the programme. The programme was ended at 11.30 am.
>On 6 th October 2023, 1 st year B.Sc Nursing students of Athena college of nursing conducted nutrition day program- ESCULENTA GALA called as the festival of edible.
The program was inaugurated by Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal and Sr. Ailen Mathias , vice principal , Athena college of nursing. Ms. Josena Mariya welcomed the gathering. Sr. Deepa Peter spoke about the importance of nutrition. After the formal function it was proceeded to the various activities conducted by the different group based on the various topic related to nutrition.
As a part of World Heart Day, KMC Hospital Mangalore conducted Woman on Walk (WOW) Walkathon aiming at awareness about Heart Health on 17/09/2023. The walkathon started from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Circle at 6.15 am and ended at Marina sports complex by 8.30 am with a short valedictory programme. Our students of II year B.Sc.(N) had participated in the Walkathon and also won the Best Institutional participation Award.

A Group Psycho-education organized by II year GNM and III year P.B.B.Sc. Nursing students on “Relaxation Techniques” was held on 23.06.2023 at 9.30 am in De – Addition ward of Father Muller Medical College Hospital.
The programme commenced with the prayer song led by II year GNM students.
Ms. Akshatha of II year PB.B.Sc. (N) welcomed the gathering which was followed by Lamp Lighting, which marked the inauguration of the programme.
Education was on Relaxation Techniques students demonstrated various techniques and nearly 25 patients were involved and benefited from the programme.
The programme came to an end with a short cultural programme followed by vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Kavya M.P.
NSS unit in association with Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing department celebrated the International Women’s Day 2023 on 08/03/2023 at 2.00pm in the college premises. The programme began with a formal prayer service and celebration. Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal AIHS addressed the gathering and motivated the faculty speaking on the UN theme “Digit All- Innovation & Technology for Gender Equality”. The programme also included cake cutting, some games and entertainment. The entire teaching faculty actively participated during the entire programme. Refreshments were served to everyone at the end.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Father Muller Medical College and Father Muller College of Nursing conducted “Women’s Health and Wellness Exhibition - 2023” and Inter college Poster competition on the theme “Embrace Equity” on 08.03.2023. Our students of IV B.Sc.(N) and III GNM students participated in the poster competition and won all three prizes.

School Health Programme was conducted on 04/03/2023 at Government Primary School Kukkatte by 4 th year B.Sc. nursing students.
Health assessment of the school children was done followed by health education on personal hygiene, Balanced diet communicable disease. A short cultural event was put up by 4 th year students. Spot games were arranged for school children and prize were distributed the H.M of the school thanked the students for giving the required knowledge to their students.

NSS unit organized Blood Donation Camp in our College in association with KMC Blood Bank Mangalore, 22/02/2023 from 9.30am to 1.00 pm. 98 volunteers participated and 38 units of blood was collected by the KMC Blood Bank centre staff. They were very co-operative and jointly responsible for the success of the camp.
The department of Medical Surgical Nursing, along with the 1 st year PB.B.Sc. Nursing students Observed World Cancer Day by organizing a Radio Programme on 07-02- 2023 at Radio Sarang 107.8 FM radio station, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru.
The HOD Ms. Nishel Barboza, and Asst Lecturer Ms. Archana along with a group of 7 students had participated in the programme. It was a great opportunity for the students to bring out Cancer health awareness among people through air broadcast thereby showcasing their talent and skills. The programme was broadcasted on 18 th at 9 am and 7:30 pm on account of World CancerDay in Radio Sarang 107.8 FM radio station.

Krida jyothi was done by the athletes of the institutions and the torch signified the spirit of true sportsmanship. Mr. R.S.Shettian declared the sports meet 2023 open, followed by oath taking ceremony. The chief guest wished good luck to the participants and students gathering. Principal, Rev. Sr. Deepa Peter, in her speech encouraged the students for their participation. 20 NSS Volunteers along with NSS PRO Mrs. Hemalatha G participated in Walkathon competition organized by Indian Red Cross Dakshina Kannada branch at Town Hall, Mangalore on the theme “ My India Great India” on occasion of National Youth Day 2023 on 12/1/2023.
On account of National Youth Day 2023, College Level drawing competition on portrait of Swami Vivekananda was held on 09/01/2023 at lecture hall from 9.30am to 10.30am.16 volunteers participated in the competition. Ms. Kavitha, Mr. Felix and Ms. Varshini won 1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd prize respectively. Prizes were distributed to the winners on the occasion of Fresher’s Day celebrations. Winners were selected to participate at District Level competition organized by IRC Dakshina Kannada branch at Yenepoya University on 11/01/2023.
The Student Nurses Association, unit of Athena Institute of Health Sciences celebrated International Nurses day on 16 th May 2022, 10.00 am at the college auditorium, in order to commemorate the birthday of the foundress Ms. Florence Nightingale.

The students of 4th year B.Sc. Nursing & 3rd Year GNM of Athena Institute of Health Sciences organized Breast Feeding programme on account of Breast Feeding week August 1st to 7th on 5th August at Ganjimatt PHC. During the inaugural ceremony Dr. Amith Raj, Medical Officer, Mr. Sunil Kumar, Taluk Panchayath Member highlighted the importance of the day and appreciated the interest and enthusiasm of the staff & students to organize such programmes in remote PHC.

An awareness programme was conducted on 31st May at 10:00 am as a part of World No Tobacco day 2021. The programme was organized by the students of 3rd year BSc nursing in collaboration with faculty of Mental Health Nursing Department through virtual platform. Students of 1st year B.Sc. nursing along with the faculty members participated in the programme. The theme : Commit to Quit, and its significance was highlighted to the participants by Miss Chelsia followed by oath taking.
The students of 3rd year B.Sc. Nursing shared a pre recorded video that was prepared by them which depicted the different forms of tobacco usage, complications, common tips to quit and strategies to stay committed to quitting tobacco. Video was prepared using posters, drawing, theme dance, awareness talk and song. Miss Nikitha compered the programme.
A virtual panel discussion was held on 15th May 2021 via Google Meet on the topic “Nurse - A Voice to Lead A Vision For Future Health Care” by the Department of Nursing Education in collaboration with 1st year M. Sc. Nursing students of Athena College of Nursing.
The panel discussion started at 10:05am. Mrs. Veena K A the moderator of the panel gave a brief introduction about the discussion. The panellist were Ms. Jyoti Rana, Mrs. Sharmila Vakayil, Mrs. Shruthi Tellis, Sr. Josy Joseph, Ms. Sonia Chanu and Ms. Anie Raju. Then Sr. Deepa Peter Principal gave a message on the importance of nurses’ day and the noble profession of Nursing. The panel was very informative and interesting for all the participants. Total 98 participants benefitted by this programme
An awareness program was organized on 24 th April 2021 National Tuberculosis Day by 2 nd P.B.B.Sc. and 4 th Year B.Sc. Nursing students at Ganjimatta PHC. The students created awareness among the public through the role play and an informative talk on tuberculosis. Students also prepared charts related to the theme which was displayed in the college premises on the same day.
An awareness Rally on COVID- 19 was held on 12th April 2021 by 2nd Year P.B.B.Sc. and 4th year B.Sc. nursing students at Ganjimutta PHC to Gandinagar. This rally was accompanied by medical Officer, Gram Panchayat members, Anganwadi teachers, ASHA workers and students. Placard bearing slogans of covid awareness were held by the students.
World health day program was organized on 07/04/2021 by the NSS unit and the faculties of Athena College of Nursing. The program began with an invoking of God's blessings, in the presence of Principal, Vice Principal, Teaching faculties and students. The program proceeded with a mime act on Covid Pandemic Prevention. In the end walkathon with slogan of RGUHS “fit RGUHS for fit India” carried on from Athena College of nursing to Athena hospital. Awareness program on “Substance Abuse and Junk Food” was conducted by 4th year B.Sc. and 2nd P.B.B.Sc. nursing students, on 29th March 2021 at Govt. Urdu Higher Primary School, Ganjimatta. Students performed a role play on the topic Substance Abuse and Junk Food and provided detail knowledge on substance abuse and junk food for 6th and 7th standard students, for this program along with students, Headmistress and teachers were present.
Anti- Ragging committee of Athena College of Nursing organized an awareness programme on 27th March 2021 in Athena Hospital Auditorium from 10.30 am to 11.30 am. Resource Person was Dr. Agnes E. J. HOD Mental Health Nursing department of Fr. Muller College of Nursing, Mangalore, had an informative and interactive session on “Nurturing life in the campus”. Good campus life is needed for personality, professional development and academic performance. Motivation, open mindedness and communication foster life in the campus. Students can overcome adjustment problems by improving socialization, interpersonal relationship, effective time management and improving coping skills .She also highlighted on what is ragging and the negative consequences of ragging which includes suspension, withholding results and scholarship, debarring from the Institution and filing FIR.
The session was attended by the 1styear batches of GNM, B.Sc. Nursing, Allied Health Sciences, 2nd year B.Sc. Nursing and Faculty members. Mrs. Sonia Lobo Chairperson of anti-ragging committee welcomed the gathering and Ms. Mary Jismy anti-ragging committee member from 4th year B.Sc. Nursing proposed the vote of thanks. OBG Department in co-operation with MSc,4th Year B.Sc. and 3rd GNM students organized IWD celebration on 8th March 2021 .Students displayed charts prepared based on theme “Women in Leadership : Achieving a Equal Future in a Covid 19 world” and made the day memorable by cutting a cake in the presence of Principal, Vice-Principal & all staff. .All teaching and non-teaching staffs were involved in the celebration. Everyone followed purple dress code on this day which stands for Dignity and Justice for the Women.
The students of 4th year B.Sc. and 2nd P.B.B.Sc. nursing have organized the celebration on the occasion of International Women’s Day, at Ganjimatta PHC on 11th April 2021 . As a part of their Inservice Education on women’s health, a session held on the topic “HEALTH TALK ON OBESITY”. The Resource Person was Mrs. Sharlet D’Souza, Associate Professor of Paediatric Nursing Department. The Chief Guest was Mr. Amith Raj, Medical officer, Ganjimatta PHC and also the ASHA workers and Anganawadi teachers were present for the session.
An international webinar was organized in collaboration with Mariyan Sainyam World Mission on 28th February 2021 on the theme ‘Ignite youth for quality life’ under the guidelines of Most Rev Dr Rapheal Thattil- Bishop of Shamshabad. It was a wonderful opportunity for the young people to come over together under one platform to know about themselves and their quality of life. The various topics dealt were value system of youth, prayer, sacramental life, value conflicts between youth and older generation , formation of right conscience and sins and addictions. The resource persons were Rev Fr Joseph Thekkekarottu, Rev Fr James Kurikalamkattu, Rev Fr Sijo Mookanthottam, Rev. Fr. Thomas Varghese. About 600 students benefitted by this programme. The Department of Pediatrics Nursing , Athena College of Nursing have witnessed world day of the sick. An observation started by Pope John Paul II as a way for believers to offer prayers for those suffering from illnesses in our hospital premises stressing the importance of caring and respecting those suffering with utmost respect and love. On 11th February 2021 at 9:30 AM the 2nd year GNM students performed a skit depicting the role of health care professionals in easing down the pain and suffering of patients. About 40 people benefitted from this programme.
The Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, along with the 3rd year B.Sc. students observed World Cancer Day by organizing a Radio Programme on 29-01-2021 at Radio Sarang 107.8 FM radio station, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru. Ms Nishel Barboza, HOD and Mrs. Thelma Pinto, Asst Lecturer along with a group of 14 students had participated in the programme. It was a great opportunity for students to bring out Cancer Awareness among people through air broadcast thereby showcasing their talent and skills. The programme is scheduled to be broadcasted on February 4th at 9 to 9:30 am and from 7:30 to 8 pm on account of World Cancer Day in radio station 107.8 F
NSS unit along with 4th year B.Sc.(N) students organized a role play on the theme of world AIDS day 2020- “Global solidarity, shared responsibility” on 1st December at Athena hospital premises from 9.30 AM to 10 AM.Principal Sr. Deepa Peter,Vice principal Dr. Sr. Alphonsa Ancheril and Deputy NS Mrs. Soubhagya were present. Fourty people observed the role play and enhanced their knowledge regarding AIDS.
OBG Department along with 3rd year GNM and 1st year P.B.B.Sc. students organized International women’s day on 7th March 2020. Dr. Jacintha Martis, from Father Muller Medical College Hospital spoke on Skin care and Rejuvenation to women employees of Athena Hospital and College. The day was made colourful with activities and games.
Anti-Ragging awareness programme was organized by the anti-Ragging cell of the college on 19th and 20th February. Posters on anti-ragging, its consequences and the necessity of student friendly atmosphere was displayed for all the students to view and an imput session was arranged on 20th February 2020 in the college auditorium. Ms. Nelvita Cleona Noronha, associate professor from SDM college was the guest speaker. 235 students gained knowledge on ragging, the laws and consequences for the offender and the victim.
Medical Surgical Nursing department along with second and third year B.Sc. and second year GNM organized four awareness programmes at Wenlock General Hospital on various medical and orthopedic disorders and on 4th February 2020, a seminar on ‘Revolutionizing Oncology and Providing Quality care in Onco Nursing at Athena Auditorium. Dr. Hemanth and Mr. Harish from Father Muller Medical College were the resource persons.
Two days programme was conducted for the students Athena Insititute of Health Sciences on 30th& 31st October 2019 at Athena Hospital Audiotrium. Enriching input sessions, value oriented games, variety entertainments and prayer sessions were given to all the students.
