Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony for the 21 st batch of GNM and 20 th Batch of B. Sc Nursing Students of Athena Institute of Health Sciences was held on 21 December 2023 at 10.30am in the College Auditorium.

The Programme was presided over by Mr. R.S Shettian, Chairman Athena institute of Health Sciences and Sr. Dhanya Devasia , Former Principal Athena Institute of Health Sciences was the Chief guest. Mrs. Asha Shettian Secretary, Dr. Ashith Shettian Trustee, Sr. Deepa Peter Principal, Athena Institute of health Sciences and Sr.Aileen Mathias Vice Principal of Athena Institute of Health sciences and Dr. Nandini, Principal of Allied Health Sciences shared the dais .

Mrs. Nancy Lecturer of Fundamentals of Nursing department welcomed the gathering.

The Dignitaries on the dais lighted the Indian lamp and officially inaugurated the programme.

The Chief Guest Sr.Dhanya Devasia lighted the Lamp for Florence Nightingale and garlanded the portrait.

Significance of the day was highlighted by Mrs. Hemalatha Rajan .

Total 140 Students were introduced to nursing profession through lighting the lamps and taking the oath. Principal Sr. Deepa Peter administered the oath.

The Chief Guest stressed on the value of nursing Profession and qualities of a nurse. She emphasized on the need to handle delicate life with delicate hands. Students should learn the skills by practice and stressed on importance of daily prayer in day to day life, which helps to give better care for the patients. Mr. R S Shettian of Athena institute of Health Sciences in his presidential address reminded the nurses role in restoring patient’s health and dedication in service. He stressed that nurses are the back bone of health profession and they should be well equipped with knowledge and skills, according to the changing scenarios.

The SNA unit organized a Christmas day celebration on 18/12/2023, 11.00 a.m. at the College Auditorium. The program began with a blessing of the renovated auditorium by the Chief Guest Rt Rev Hemachandra Kumar, Bishop CSI Karnataka Southern diocese. The bishop first prayed and blessed the auditorium, and entered the auditorium with other dignitaries; Mr. R S Shettian chairman AIHS, Mrs Asha Shettian secretary AIHS, Dr Ashith Shettian and Dr Nishitha Shettian Fernandes Trustees AIHS, Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal AIHS Sr. Aileen Mathais Vice Principal AIHS and Dr Nandini M, Principal AIAHS.

Mr. R S Shettian welcomed all who attended the occasion; the Chief Guest shared a message on the true essence of celebrating Christmas. The formal program was further followed by a short yet energetic and vibrant Christmas program and prize distribution. The program concluded with a Vote of thanks by Sr. Deepa Peter. The College Anthem was sung at the end and refreshments were served to everyone.

Athena Institute of Health Sciences is proud to announce the inauguration of its new academic year of 7 th batch of Allied Health Sciences, 20th batch of B.Sc Nursing, 14th batch of PBBSc, 12th batch of M.Sc and 21st batch of General Nursing courses on 4 th November and 8 th November 2023 respectively at college auditorium, and aimed at preparing the next generation of compassionate and skilled healthcare professionals.

The ceremony was presided over by Chairman Mr. R. S Shettian, faculty members, and students. The event was marked by inspiring speeches and traditional rituals. Sr. Aileen Mathias the Vice Principal of the college welcomed the gathering.

Principal Rev. Sr. Deepa Peter highlighted in her speech that the nursing course will offer a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical training, ensuring that students are well-equipped to meet the demands of the healthcare Profession. The program will focus on developing critical thinking, clinical skills, and ethical decision-making, while also emphasizing the importance of patient-centered care.

Dr. Nandini, Principal Athena Institute of Allied Health Sciences made the students to understand the value of paramedical services and also encouraged students to pursue higher education.

The Chairman in his presidential message said: "We are thrilled to inaugurate the professional courses, which reflects our commitment to providing high-quality education in the healthcare field, our goal is to produce competent and compassionate nurses who will make a positive impact on the lives of their patients and the community."

Ms. Neha Baby first year B.Sc. Nursing 2 nd semester student shared her experiences of being cared and shared by the well equipped teachers; who promote positive learning environment and ready to help any moment.

She shared her insights on the future of nursing and the evolving role of healthcare professionals in today's society. This provided an opportunity for students to gain valuable perspectives and network with potential mentors. Staff introduction was given with PowerPoint presentations.

Fresher’s were happy to introduce themselves along with their hobbies.

Athena Institute of Health Sciences is a leading educational institution dedicated to providing innovative and impactful learning experiences for students across various disciplines. Graduation Ceremony of Athena Institute of Health Sciences was held on 30.04.2023 at 4.00 pm in “Town Hall” Mangalore.

The programme was initiated with grandiose procession of the graduates accompanied by the band and salutation with the magnificent honour at the entrance of town hall. The president of the programme Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman, Chief Guest Rev. Sr. Irene Menezes, Provincial Superior, of Sisters of Charity, Mangalore province, Guest of Honour Dr. Judith Noronha, Dean, Manipal College of Nursing, Mrs. Asha Shettian Secretary, AIHS, Dr. Ashith Shettian, Trustee, AIHS, Sr. Deepa Peter Principal Athena College of Nursing, Dr. Nandini M Principal Athena Institute of Allied Health Sciences, Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal were offered a traditional Indian style with “Poornakumba Swagatham, followed by the Prayer dance performed by the second year B.sc Nursing students.

It was a time of celebration where students were lauded for the efforts they put in to obtain their degrees. There were 27 rank holders and 84 prize winners in various activities were awarded. 78 B.Sc. Nursing, 5 M.Sc. Nursing, 47 GNM Diploma holders and Allied Health B.Sc. Renal Dialysis 5 graduates; total 133 graduates received their degree certificates.

Sr. Irene Menezes, Provincial Superior of Sisters of Charity was the Chief Guest. She highlighted the dedication of nurses during pandemic of Covid -19 and called upon to be more compassionate after the example of Jesus Christ. She also said there is need of more nurses who has to practice empathy, advocacy, leadership and useful to the wounded society.

Dr. Judith Angelitta Noronha Dean of Manipal College of Nursing was the guest of honour, called upon the graduates that everyone holds a fortune in his/ her hand. We have to fly high taking the opportunities and making use of God given talents. Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman his presidential address asked the students to be ambassadors of the institution and studying further to bring about laurels to the Alma Mater.

Rev. Sr. Aileen Mathias, Vice Principal welcomed the gathering. Rev. Sr. Deepa Peter presented the annual report of the college and administered the oath to nurses. Dr. Nandini M Principal of Allied Health Sciences administered the oath to B.Sc. Renal Dialysis graduates.

Mrs. Hemalatha G Prof. OBG department read the names of B.Sc.(N) graduates, Mrs. Prashwin D Mello read the names of GNM nursing, Mrs. Jyothimol P V, Ms. Kavana P R, Mrs. Priyanka Hazel M D Souza presented the list of awardees. Mrs. Sunitha Cloudia Lobo Prof. Community Health department proposed the vote of thanks. Mrs. Juilet and Ms. Amrutha Krishnan compered the graduation ceremony. After the recession of the graduates cultural events were organized for the gathering. Around 1200 people consisting of graduates, parents, alumni, guests, staff and students witnessed the solemn celebration. Graduation dinner was served for all after the programme.

On 30.03.2023, a new college building has been inaugurated by the chairman Mrs. R.S. Shettian along with his family members at 11.30 am at Falnir close to the Athena Hospital. A meaningful prayer service was conducted by the pastors Rev. Praburaj and Rev. Adrine Deepak and implored God’s blessing on the new building. Principal of Allied Health Science courses Dr Nandini. Athena Institute of Health Sciences organized a programme to express gratitude and bid farewell to the outgoing 11 th Batch M.Sc., 12 th Batch of PB.B.Sc., 16 th Batch of B.Sc.(N) and 18 th Batch of GNM. Programme was held at St. Alphonsa Church Auditorium at 11.20 am followed by thanks giving mass.

As a part of inaugural, flex named “CIAO BASH 2K23” was released. The outgoing batches and guests were welcomed with the entrance dance. The formal programme began with a prayer song. Ms. Shenova of 1 st year PB.B.Sc.(N) welcomed the gathering. As a significance of the day lamp lighting was done by dignitaries on the dais. Mr. R.S. Shettian Chairman, Principal Sr. Deepa Peter, Vice Principal Sr. Aileen Mathias, Mrs. Sunitha, Mrs. Hemalatha, Mrs. Viola and Ms. Jasmin.

Felicitation with mementoes were given to the outgoing batches by the dignitaries. One representative from each batch expressed their memorable moments in Athena. Inspiring and valuable messages were delivered by Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman, Sr. Deepa Peter and Mrs. Hemalatha. The audience was entertained by various cultural programs filled with zeal and enthusiasm. Vote of thanks delightfully delivered by Ms. Sruthi Christeena, 3 rd year B.Sc. Nursing. To wrap up the programme, refreshment was provided to all. The programme was compered by Ms. Laxmi Vinod, Ms. Aleen Deep and Ms. Angela Tomy, students of 3 rd year B.Sc. Nursing.

Freshers day was celebrated at Athena College of Nursing on January 13 th . It heralds the arrival of the new B.Sc. (N), GNM(N),PB B.Sc.(N),Allied health sciences batches of 2022 into the Athena family. The theme for the day was ‘Gradito’-23 means welcoming the new faces, which signifies the platform provided by the college to the new batches to express their creativity, talents and imagination in various fields.

The programme was convened at the Athena college Auditorium, where it began with a prayer song. Ms.Josna Shajan, II B.Sc. (N) welcomed the gathering.

The entertainment started off with a semi classical dance , I st B.Sc. (N) portraying the culture of South India. The show continued with melodious group songs by B.Sc. and GNM batches followed by the ‘Oppana’, a popular form of social entertainment among the mappila community of Kerala by the students of allied health science.

Students of B.Sc. (N) enacted a mime show based on the problems faced by the girl child .Solo dances, fusion dances and variety entertainments were performed by the students.

Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal Athena Institute of Health Sciences then addressed the gathering and encouraged the students to imbibe the culture and discipline of the institution.

The winners of the college level drawing competition on portrait of Swami Vivekananda held on the occasion of national Youth Day -2023 were announced .The first place was bagged by Ms. Kavita, I st year GNM.Ms. Sandra Eliza, IV th year B.Sc.(N) student proposed the vote of thanks .The programme came to the end by singing the college anthem.

The whole programme was compared by Ms. Rachel DSouza and Ms. Ancy Mathew, students of 1 st year B.Sc.(N).

The course inauguration of the 19 th Batch of B.Sc.(N), was held on 07 th October 2022 at 10am in the Athena College Auditorium.

The Programme commenced with the prayer dance led by 2 nd year B.Sc. (N) students. Sr. Aileen Mathias Vice Principal of Athena College of Nursing welcomed the gathering which was followed by lamp lighting that marked the inauguration of the course.

Sr. Deepa Peter, Principal Athena college of nursing briefed about the course and she focused on quality education and overall development of the students. The faculty of Athena College of Nursing were introduced to the freshers followed by students introduction.

In the presidential address Mr. R.S Shettian, Chairman Athena institute of health sciences welcomed all freshers to the institution and congratulated them for selecting the college. On the completion of 25 years of meritorious service to the people, the Athena Hospital celebrated its silver jubilee with great pomp and circumstance.

To mark the silver jubilee celebration of Athena Hospital a meaningful prayer service was held on 30/03/2022 at 10:00 AM in Athena Hospital auditorium which was devoutly led by Sr. Aileen Mathias and team. The Pastors Rev. Prabhu Raj and Rev. Adrian Deepak read the Bible passages, preached and prayed for the blessings for the future mission.

Later the event commenced with the welcome speech by Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman. A memorable journey of 25 years of Athena Hospital was displayed through a short documentary. Then the honouring people who have served the Athena Hospital for more than 20 years and who made a great impact in the Institution was done. Later, as a token of gratitude, Mr. R.S. Shettian Chairman of Athena Hospital was honoured by Mr. Jagadish, Mrs. Mable Cabral and Mr. Shankar. The event was embarked by message delivered by Mr. Pankaj Gilbert Coasta President of Dhakha Credit Co-operative Society. The programme ended with the vote of thanks given by Dr. Nishitha Fernandes Shettian.

The Athena Institute of Health Sciences and Athena Hospital celebrated their Silver Jubilee and Graduation day on 30th March 2022 for the outgoing batches of GNM, B.Sc, P.B.B.Sc., M.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. Renal Dialysis Technology in Father Muller Convention Centre honoured by Rev. Fr. Richard Aloysius Coelho, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions as the Chief Guest, Dr. G. G. Laxman Prabhu, Professor of Urology, Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore & Secretary Elect, Urological Society of India and Dr. Bindhu Mathew, Vice Principal St. John’s College of Nursing Bangalore; & Dean of Nursing Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore as the Guests of Honour and presided over by Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman Athena Institute of Health Sciences.

The graduand march was led by the college band playing to the tunes of congratulation and praises to God guiding them to the Father Muller Convention Center. The dignitaries were offered the traditional Poornakumbam as a sign of respect. 

Welcome speech was delivered by Vice Principal Sr. Aileen Mathias, Athena Institute of Health Sciences who eloquently essayed warm greetings to the dignitaries and the audience.

The Annual report of Athena Institute of Health Sciences was presented by the Principal Rev Sr. Deepa Peter.

There was a moment that really added charm to the atmosphere with a sense of achievement with the graduands receiving the certificates from the Dignitaries and partaking in the oath to serve and protect their profession. Tassels turned to right, the graduates were born.

Rev Fr Richard Aloysius Coelho quoted the parable of Good Samaritan and advised the graduates to go and do good likewise. Dr. G G Laxman Prabhu congratulated the institute on its completion of glorious 25 years and Dr. Bindhu Mathew suggested the graduates to never compromise quality of care and to be ambassadors of care. Mr. R S Shettian expressed his gratitude to all those who contributed towards the silver jubilee and congratulated the graduates. Dr. Ashith Shettian, trustee Athena Institute of Health Sciences briefed us about the milestones achieved in the past 25 years. The dignitaries released the college magazine ‘Athespitha’.

On behalf of all graduates, Ms. Angel Benny voiced the nostalgic feelings of their days in the college and expressed how the teachers have moulded them for their better growth.

The best outgoing students as well as students who have excelled in various academic activities were awarded and blessed during the occasion. The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Mrs. Sunitha Lobo HOD department of Community Health Nursing. 371 graduates with their parents attended the ceremony to celebrate their success which had the graduates from batches of 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21. There was thunderous applause when the rank holders Mr. Suhain Bin Assainar, Ms. Alty Lyngdoh, Ms. Midhila Raj and Ms. Santhra S. from B.Sc. Renal Dialysis Technology, Ms. Reshmamol K R from B.Sc. Nursing & Sr. Annet K Tom from M.Sc. Nursing received Highest Awards. There were 50 ranks in Renal Dialysis Technology course and 141 ranks in nursing courses.

Mrs. Asha Shettian, Secretary Athena Institute of Health Sciences was also present on the dais. The presence of the management committee, teaching and non teaching staff, students, parents and guardians enhanced the beauty of the occasion.  The event was beautifully compered by Mrs. Renita Tauro and Mrs. Viola DSouza.

Faculty & students of all the batches expressed their gratitude and feelings to the outgoing vice principal for her commendable & dedicated service in the Institution for the past 12 years through audio and video presentations of her achievement. Faculty and students with their melodious voice greeted and thanked Sr. Alphonsa Ancheril through farewell songs. Professor Sunitha D Souza expressed sentiments of gratitude on behalf of the faculty. Mr. R.S. Shettian, Chairman of Athena Institute of Health Sciences thanked and felicitated the outgoing Vice Principal for the selfless services which she rendered to the Institution.

She was honoured by the dignitaries by offering shawl, garland, saplings and memento. He also welcomed the newly appointed Vice Principal Sr. Aileen Mathias. Sr. Alphonsa Ancheril expressed her sentiments of gratitude to the management, staff and students. Lamp Lighting and oath taking ceremony for the 18th batch of GNM and 17th Batch of B.Sc Nursing students of Athena Institute of Health Sciences was held on 10th March 2021 at college auditorium.Programme was presided over by Mr. R.S Shettian Chairman Athena Institute of Health Sciences and Professor Bridget Dsilva Principal Thejaswini College of Nursing was the Chief Guest. Mrs. Asha Shettian, Secretary Athena institute of Health Sciences, Dr. Ashith Shettian, Trustee, Mrs. Winni Crasta Nursing superintendent, Sr. Deepa Peter Principal, Athena college of Nursing and Dr. Sr. Alphonsa Ancheril Vice Principal Athena College of nursing shared the Dias. Mrs. Genevive Serrao Head of Fundamentals of Nursing Department welcomed the gathering. The Dignitaries on the Dias lighted the Indian lamp and officially inaugurated the programme. The chief guest lighted the Lamp for Florence nightingale and garlanded the portrait and all the dignitaries paid their homage to Florence nightingale the founder of modern nursing by offering flower petals. Significance of the day was highlighted by Dr. Sr. Alphonsa Ancheril Vice Principal and PG Coordinator. Total 109 students were introduced to nursing profession through lighting the lamps and taking the Oath. Principal Sr. Deepa Peter administered the Oath.

The chief guest stressed on value of Nursing Profession and emphasized to ignite the nursing profession with lighted lamp all through the life. To keep a lamp lighted all the time it is not easy. We will come across many difficulties but this should not blow off our light. Overcome the difficulties and bright future waits you ahead. Mr. R.S Shettian Chairman of Athena Institute of Health Sciences in his presidential address reminded the nurses of their role in restoring patients back to health. He stressed that nurses are the back bone of health profession and as such they should be well equipped with knowledge and skills.

Mrs. Lora Pais Assistant Lecturer of Fundamental Nursing Department Proposed the vote of thanks. Programme was compared by Mrs. Lerissa Montero and Ms. Lavita Dsouza.

The course inauguration of the 18th Batch of GNM, 17th Batch of B.Sc.(N), 12th Batch of M.Sc.(N), 4th Batch of B.Sc. Renal Dialysis Technology, 1st Batch of B.Sc. Imaging Technology, 1st Batch of B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology, 1st Batch of B.Sc.Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology was held on 22nd December 2020 at 10am in the Athena College Auditorium.

The programme commenced with the prayer service led by Mrs. Sharlet Dsouza, Associate Professor, Athena college of nursing and her team . Ms. Charishma Veigas, Assistant Lecturer welcomed the gathering which was followed by lamp lighting that marked the inauguration of the course.

Sr.Deepa Peter, Principal Athena College of Nursing briefed about the course and she focused on quality education and overall development of the students. Freshers of various batches were introduced to the audience by their class coordinators. As a part of Christmas celebration students of 2nd year B.Sc.(N) sang carols and 2nd year GNM played Christmas tableau.

In the presidential address Mr. R.S Shettian, Chairman Athena Institute of Health Sciences welcomed all new students to the institution and congratulated them for selecting the college. He assured management support in all the curricular and non curricular activities.

Mrs.Priya Carnelio, Assistant Lecturer proposed the vote of thanks to all for gracing the occasion by their solemn presence.
